Solar car racing workshops 2009
Solar car race workshops 2009, Rosebank Rooftop Market
- The workshops consisted of a informal "lecture" on renewable versus non rewable energy sourses.
- Followed by the building of a solar powered car from materials provided.
- After some trial runs the contestants raced against each other, applying drag racing rules.
- Finally everyone received a certificate or award.
Many onlookers had a peep into the classroom where I, Mr Sunshine, demonstrated the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy sources by burning up some "fossil" fuel in a pot. During the workshop some of the "Mechanics" showed some unusual building styles. Some worked better than others.
Apart from building the car itself the workshop included the building of a Spinning top (miniature solar system) as well as showing the
construction of a PV (photo voltiac) solar wafer from the raw material -
ordinary sand to the end product - the cars Solar Panel. After some practise runs we started the race to the delight of all the competitors and the onlookers.
Sunny regards
